സുമതി വളവ് എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ പ്രൊഡ്യൂസറിൻറെ ,സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയയിൽ പ്രചരിക്കുന്ന വീഡിയോയാണ് ഈ കുറിപ്പെഴുതാൻ എന്നെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്... ഈ സിനിമയുടെ കഥ ഏതാനും വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുന്നേ ഞാൻ കേട്ടതാണ്...സിനിമാ ഷൂട്ട് തുടങ്ങുന്നതിനു മുന്നേ ഇതിൻറെ പ്രൊഡ്യൂസർ മുരളിയെ ദുബായിൽ വച്ച് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ,സീരിയൽ നിലവാരത്തിലുള്ള കഥയുടെ പോരായ്മയെ പറ്റി സംസാരിക്കുകയും, കഴിയുന്നതും ഈ സിനിമയുമായി മുന്നോട്ടുപോകരുതെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞതും, ഇപ്പോഴുമോർക്കുന്നു...എന്നാൽ അണിയറ പ്രവർത്തകരുടെ പ്രലോഭനങ്ങളിൽ വശംവദനായി അദ്ദേഹം പ്രോജക്റ്റുമായി മുന്നോട്ട് പോയി...

റിലീസും നികത്താനാവാത്ത നഷ്ടങ്ങളും

പ്രീ ബിസിനസ് ഒന്നും നടന്നില്ലെങ്കിലും, ഗോകുലം മൂവീസ് രക്ഷകരായി , സിനിമ തിയേറ്ററിലേക്കെത്തി...എൻറെ അറിവിൽ , പ്രൊഡക്ഷന്റെ എക്സ്പെൻസും, റിലീസ് എക്സ്പെൻസുമെല്ലാം ചേർന്നപ്പോൾ , ഏകദേശം 20 കോടി ചിലവായിരുന്നു... ഇദ്ദേഹം വീഡിയോയിൽ പറയുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങൾ ഒട്ടുമിക്കതും സത്യമാണെന്നാണ് എൻറെ അറിവ്...പിന്നെ ഇതിൽ പറയുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരന്റെയും, സംവിധായകന്റേയുമെല്ലാം കഴിവിനെ പറ്റി കമൻറ് ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല...

സിനിമ തുടങ്ങുന്നതിനു മുന്നേ പറഞ്ഞ ബഡ്ജറ്റിന്റെ , ഇരട്ടിയോ അതിനു മുകളിലേക്കോ പോയാലും ഒരു കുലുക്കവുമില്ലാത്ത സിനിമാ പ്രവർത്തകരേയും ,ബഡ്ജറ്റ് കൂടുന്നതനുസരിച്ച് പുതിയ പ്രൊഡ്യൂസർമാരെ ചേർത്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നവന്മാരേയും, സംവിധാനം പോയിട്ട് ,ആർട്ടിസ്റ്റുകൾക്ക് കുട പിടിച്ചു കൊടുക്കാൻ പോലും യോഗ്യതയില്ലാത്തവൻമാരേയും ആജീവനാന്തം സിനിമയിൽ നിന്ന് അകറ്റിയില്ലെങ്കിൽ ഇതുപോലുളള ദുരന്തങ്ങൾ തുടർന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കും... സിനിമാ അസോസിയേഷനുകളുടെ, തലപ്പത്തിരിക്കുന്ന സാറന്മാരുടെ കണ്ണ് തുറക്കുന്നത് എപ്പോഴാണാവോ?

Sumathi Valavu and the Producer’s Revelation

The motivation behind this note is a video circulating on social media featuring the producer of the movie Sumathi Valavu. I had heard the story of this film a few years ago. I still remember meeting the producer, Murali, in Dubai before the shoot began; I spoke to him then about the shortcomings of the script, which felt like a low-quality television serial, and advised him not to move forward with the project. However, lured by the persuasions of the crew, he proceeded with the project.

Escalating Budgets and Financial Ruin

A story that only warranted a budget of five or six crores ended up costing him approximately 15 crore rupees by the time it was filmed. I had the opportunity to watch the movie before its release, and I was devastated by what I saw. I told him then that the film should never be taken to theaters without securing some form of pre-business deal.

The Release and Irrecoverable Losses

Even though no pre-business happened, Gokulam Movies acted as a savior and brought the film to theaters. To my knowledge, when the production and release expenses were combined, the total cost was around 20 crore rupees. I believe most of what he says in the video is true. I am not commenting on the talent of the writer or director mentioned therein.

The Necessity of Self-Assessment

When someone takes over a large fortune belonging to another by persuading them—be it in cinema or any other business—they should think at least a little: "Do I have the capability for this? Am I competent enough?"

Hidden Tragedies in the Industry

This is by no means an isolated incident. It is a harsh reality that hundreds of producers have ended up in ruins, walking the brink of suicide. Many simply do not speak out for fear of loss of reputation. There is a group of people in the film industry who lack even a shred of sincerity. If you want to see those who flaunt their arrogance and act important using someone else's money, you only need to look at the process of making a movie.

The Silence of Associations and the Need for Change

Unless we permanently banish those film workers who remain unfazed when the budget doubles or more, those who keep adding new producers as the budget climbs, and those who aren't even qualified to hold an umbrella for an artist—let alone direct a film—such disasters will continue to happen. When will the leaders sitting at the helm of film associations finally open their eyes?
