First Surgery Under 'Kathodu Kathoram' Project Successful
Kochi: "Angelo, my son, this is Mammootty. The same Mammookka you see in movies and on TV. Study well and grow up to be a brilliant person..." That voice reached a small world that had been silent for so long. Hearing it, Angelo was initially bewildered. He was hearing a human voice for the first time in his life—the voice of the person who opened the doors to a world of birdsong and lullabies for his young ears.
Liberation from the Prison of Silence
This is a new world for four-year-old Angelo, son of Jaison and Ansha, natives of Chemmanar, Idukki. Born without the ability to hear, the child was liberated from the prison of silence by 'Kathodu Kathoram,' a project jointly implemented by Mammootty’s Care and Share International Foundation and Aluva Rajagiri Hospital.
The Path of Survival
For Jaison, a simple farmer, raising nearly ₹12 lakh required for his son's Cochlear Implantation was an impossible task. The family's grief over their son's future ended when Ansha, through a relative, learned about the 'Kathodu Kathoram' project. This initiative, started by Mammootty to restore hearing to children from financially backward families, became a lifeline for Angelo.
Surgery and the Expert Medical Team
Angelo began hearing the sounds of the outside world when the "Switch On" ceremony was performed at Rajagiri Hospital after the surgery. It was at this crucial moment that the beloved star, Mammootty, welcomed Angelo with affectionate words. The surgery was successfully completed under the leadership of Dr. Rajesh Raju George, Head of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery at Rajagiri Hospital.
