Major controversies regarding the Censor Board surfaced ahead of the film's release. The primary issue was the name of the main antagonist being 'Bineesh'. Allegations arose that this name shared a resemblance with the son of a prominent political leader and was intended to intentionally defame them. Furthermore, the Censor Board's demand to remove certain dialogues and political speeches containing government criticism led to widespread discussions.
Character Conflicts
The antagonist, Bineesh, is portrayed in the film as having links to drug mafias and hawala transactions. The Censor Board observed that this bore a strong resemblance to real-life political situations. However, the crew argued that the character's name and background were integral to the plot and could not be changed. Ultimately, clearance for exhibition was obtained by modifying some dialogues and muting certain controversial segments.
Release and Theater Hurdles
The release, originally scheduled for April, was pushed to May due to censorship issues. Additionally, negotiations between the producers and FEUOK (Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala) regarding theater revenue shares also affected the release. Being a big-budget film, the theater owners initially opposed the producers' demand for a higher percentage of the revenue share. Finally, all hurdles were cleared for the film to hit theaters in the first week of May.
