Today’s Congress MLAs in Kerala find themselves in a situation mirroring Mohanlal’s iconic character in the movie Bharatham. On one side, the "elder brother" (the party’s tradition and stability) lies dead; on the other, the audience (the public) is waiting for the concert to begin. Just as the protagonist performed the concert in tears, Kerala's MLAs are caught in a profound moral and political dilemma. As these MLAs, who won with massive majorities, scramble to decide whom to support and whom to sideline, they would do well to look at the current plight of P.C. George on social media. They must realize that any decision regarding the future of Kerala will directly impact their own political survival as well.

Short-term Gains vs. Political Suicide

For temporary benefits, MLAs might consider supporting K.C. Venugopal, but doing so would be equivalent to digging their own political graves. No MLA with long-term vision is likely to back K.C. Venugopal. It is hard to believe they would make such a decision based solely on the fact that election funds were provided. Most MLAs have spent the month-long wait for results reading social media comments; therefore, they are unlikely to take any suicidal steps. The people of Kerala remember everything; they are no longer a crowd that jumps blindly at someone’s command. Times have changed, and the people have changed—MLAs must remember this shift.

The Shadow of Allegations and National Failures

Regarding K.C. Venugopal, we have heard reports from Karnataka and North India about candidates being selected in exchange for money. It was his unnecessary interference in Haryana and Punjab that caused the Congress to lose those states forever. In Haryana, where victory was certain, local Congress leaders held press conferences alleging that candidates were parachuted in after taking bribes. Even in Bihar, Congress loyalists blocked Priyanka Gandhi at the airport due to similar allegations. If Kerala's MLAs take a drastic decision despite knowing all this, they can be certain that protests will roar in front of their homes.

The Mandate: Satheesan’s Leadership vs. Venugopal’s Groupism

The people did not elect these MLAs because of K.C. Venugopal’s talents. When the public decided to vote against the "primitive" misrule of Pinarayi Vijayan over the last ten years, the face they saw leading that charge was V.D. Satheesan. Conversely, had K.C. Venugopal or Ramesh Chennithala been projected as the face, Pinarayi would have likely secured a third term. The good people of Kerala and the minority voters saw V.D. Satheesan as their savior. While Satheesan could have used "groupism" to promote his loyalists, he instead worked day and night to ensure the party's victory. Meanwhile, K.C. Venugopal was busy nurturing his own faction.

The Delhi 'Albatross' and the Alappuzha Blunder

There is a reason why the Delhi circles have grown tired of K.C. Venugopal; they want to offload that "cross" somewhere else. Their solution is to "parachute" him into Kerala. Had K.C. possessed any foresight, he wouldn't have contested in Alappuzha. By doing so, the Congress lost a Rajya Sabha seat in Rajasthan to the BJP. If K.C. tries to become the Chief Minister of Kerala through cunning and muscle power, he won't win from Irikkur, Alappuzha, or even Malappuram (where Kunhalikutty won by 80,000 votes). Congress workers themselves will ensure his defeat, and the Alappuzha Lok Sabha seat will be lost to the party forever.

The Threats and the 'Congress-Mukt' Agenda

Opposing parties are waiting for K.C. to become the Chief Minister. It is understood that they are holding onto various pieces of evidence to release at that exact moment. Their plan is to ignite those reports across North India the very same day. Their ultimate goal is a "Congress-free India" (Congress-Mukt Bharat). For a long time, the BJP has been claiming that the next Chief Minister of Kerala will be from their party. The BJP has been claiming for a while that the next CM of Kerala will be from the BJP. Everyone knows the BJP has indirectly influenced Kerala's governance over the last ten years. Even if they don't get direct power, they are content with someone like Arvind Kejriwal or Pinarayi Vijayan to run the show. This is how they plan to implement their "Congress-Mukt" vision.

A Warning: Listen to the Digital Pulse

Therefore, all newly elected Congress MLAs, independents, and UDF ally MLAs must make decisions only after subtle and deep discussions with their cadres and well-wishers. In this regard, we must truly thank the Election Commission. Because of the one-month gap before results, the voters had the opportunity to speak openly about who should be the Chief Minister. Otherwise, we might have seen a "parachuted leader" from Delhi one fine morning. Out of 13,200 comments under a post by K. Sudhakaran, 13,100 were against K.C. Venugopal. If the MLAs find the time, they should read the comments under K.C.’s own posts. Only then will they realize the ground reality!

To the MLAs: When the High Command representatives interview you individually, please voice your opinions solely on behalf of the people who voted for your victory. Do not be a party to decisions that will hurt Kerala.
